Online sales to drive in-store technology growth

Inside Retailing (Australia): With Internet sales expected to account for almost 20 percent of turnover by 2012-15, and Web sites becoming increasingly transactional rather than informational, there is also likely to be a rise in the application of technology within the retailer community. As a result there would be a rise in self-service scanning, product tracking for inventory using RFID and targeted promotions delivered directly to consumers while they shop. In addition, retailers are more likely to have Web-based facilities in the store, giving immediate access to product and customer reviews.
